Great news for the German Ice Hockey Federation: Germany will host the 2027 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship!
Now it is official: The 2027 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in Germany! Today in Tampere, Finland, the delegates of the member federations of the Ice Hockey World Federation IIHF awarded the right to host the 2027 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship to the German Ice Hockey Federation e.V. (DEB). The tournament will take place in Düsseldorf and Mannheim in May 2027. The DEB prevailed over competitor Kazakhstan in a secret voting process that took place during the IIHF Annual Congress on the final weekend of the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship currently taking place in Finland and Latvia.
Together with the German Ice Hockey Federation, the team led by Daniel Battistel and Anja Ebitsch accompanied the application process, prepared the application documents and planned and implemented the congress appearance in Tampere. Anja Ebitsch: “Bidding processes are always exciting and to experience the moment of the announcement live here in Tampere is a special reward for the work of the last months. The “one-team-approach” has really been lived and we would like to thank Claus Gröbner and his team for the trust they have placed in us!”
