“Football Fans in Training” program presented at the popular ZDF charity gala in favor of the German Cancer Aid
On Saturday, September 30, 2017, Carmen Nebel presented the big ZDF-charity gala “Welcome to Carmen Nebel” live from the TUI Arena Hannover. Football was also a topic in the popular Saturday night show. In conversation with moderator Carmen Nebel, Dr. Fritz Pleitgen, President of the German Cancer Aid, presented the prevention program “Football Fans in Training”.
In this prevention program, overweight men between 35 and 65 are motivated by experts in the sports facilities of their favorite club, to live healthier and to actively take part in sports themselves with the goal to reduce weight. Overweight is life-threatening and increases the risk of developing cancer, for example, of colorectal cancer. “Half of all cancer can be avoided according to expert opinion by a healthy way of life. More movement, abstinence from smoking, alcohol consumption in moderation and a balanced diet reduce the personal cancer risk “, says Pleitgen.
One day after the charity show, more than 3.5 million euros of donations have been raised for the German Cancer Aid. The mm sports team advises and supports the German Cancer Aid as part of the project team in the implementation of the prevention program “Football Fans in Training”. In the meantime ten Bundesliga clubs joined the program and offer it to their fans and members. A first course for women has already started.
